This Lent we are going to continue our focus on prayer, as we look for simple ways to sit with the Lord this Lent. We are going to challenge you to shift your focus from "doing" something this Lent to focusing on what God is doing in our prayer time. We will be pulling from the book "Time for God" as a guide for our weekly prayer challenges. These prayer meditations are aimed to help you focus on loving God this Lent!
Prayer Habits
Prayer consideration: Mental prayer should become a daily event as vital to us as the basic rhythms of existence.(pg 97) Am I faithful to daily prayer? Are there things I could do to help me pray better? (i.e. have a dedicated prayer space and time of day to pray, keep my phone away from arm’s reach at prayer time)
Prayer challenge: Does my current prayer set up (time, location, ect) allow me to keep my focus on God in prayer? Do I need to make any changes this Lent to my prayer time?
What is Mental Prayer?
“Prayer that consists of facing God in solitude and silence for a time in order to enter into intimate, loving communion with Him.”
Prayer consideration: Does my prayer life look like how Fr. Jacques describes mental prayer?
Do I have a hard time sitting and just being with the Lord?
Prayer challenge: The life of prayer is not a technique to be mastered but a grace to be received, a gift from God. (pg 8)
God's love is pure gift, spend 5 minutes in prayer each day this week focusing on God and just being in his loving presence.
Quote: “Be content to stay before God in a simple, loving, peaceful attentiveness.” Fr. Jacques Philippe
