A dress code is in place for the benefit of all students. A Catholic education is important and we want to look our best for important events. Studies show that all people behave and perform better when they are dressed nicer. Listed below are the minimum requirements for clothing at MHT School. Medical exemptions and waivers are allowed under special circumstances and must be approved by school administration.
Mass Days
- Clothing must be neat, clean, and modest
- Extremely short or tight bottoms like leggings and tights are only allowed in solid color and only with a skirt/dress that goes down to 4 inches above the center of the knee cap
- Tight, form-fitting, midriff, or revealing shirts are not permitted
- Shirts or sweatshirts with pictures of musical groups or with negative connotations, pictures or sayings (subject to school administration judgment) are not permitted
- Shirts must cover the top of the shoulders
- Pants with rips, tears or holes are not permitted
- Shorts, skirts, jumpers, and dresses should be no shorter than four inches from the center of the knee. Shorts are only permitted during 1st and 4th quarters
- Cotton, twill, and denim shorts are allowed in 1st and 4th quarters only
- Nylon, jersey or mesh shorts are not permitted except on dress down days
- Sweatpants are only permitted on dress down days
- Pajama pants are not permitted unless a specific dress-up day is designated for them (no PJ pants on Friday dress down days)
- No hoods or hats can be worn inside the school
- No jackets in the classroom unless given permission by the classroom teacher
- Tattoos, body art, non-ear body piercing cannot be visible (unless non-permanent and school sponsored)
- Hair length and color should be neat and non-distracting
- Make-up is allowed for 7th & 8th grade girls only, but should be worn minimally and modestly (except on special dress-up days, i.e. Catholic Schools Week & Homecoming)
Mass Days
- Pants
- No shorts or capris, unless given special permission
- Tan or navy cotton/twill/polyester/wool blend pants or corduroys
- Dri-fit pants, such as golf pants are permitted
- No denim, embroidery, or patterns allowed
- Waist bands may be elastic, but stretch knit pants (including any combination of spandex materials) are not permitted
- Shirts/Tops
- Navy blue or burgundy polo shirts
- Navy blue or burgundy cardigan sweater
- MHT School Sweatshirts over the polo are allowed - except when participating in the Mass (reading, serving, gifts, etc.)
- Special choir shirts are allowed for students singing in the choir that day
